«Не смогли продавать оставшиеся кости, так, может быть, на этот раз торговля удастся», - подумали семеро братьев и разрезали семь коровьих шкур на куски.

"What kind of people are they, coming to sell small pieces of cow hide on the market; are they making fools of us?!", all the people insisted and spitting on the seven brothers chased them off the market.

«Что за люди пришли на базар продавать маленькие куски коровьих шкур? Они считают нас глупцами!» - с такими словами все люди налетели на них и, плюнув им в лицо, выгнали семерых братьев с базара.

When they met the widow there, they asked her: "We can't see your son, where is he?"

Они встретили вдову и спросили у нее: «Почему твоего сына не видно, где он находится?»

Now, after much time, the father was looking why his son didn't came.

Теперь отец долго ждал, не идет ли сын.

He tied the horse to the cattle-shed and waited for his son: "Why isn't he coming again now?"

Привязал в хлеву коня и ждал сына, не идет ли он.

Just as the boy's father had lead the horse to the market, Oku came and asked him: "Won't you sell this horse, what is its price?"

Когда отец юноши с конем пошел на базар, Оку подошел и спросил его: «Не продаешь ли этого коня, сколько он стоит?»

The girl said: "From where must it be yours, it is sitting on my hand."

Девушка сказала: «Как он может быть твой, видишь, он сел на меня».

And the next day, the brothers came home sad: "One single daughter of the king remain's now, and just one of us will get her."

В тот день братья опять пришли печальные, теперь осталась одна единственная дочь хана, хотя бы она, мол, досталась одному из них.

The third day then, in the morning, the two older brothers went on their way: "Today we might succeed in stealing the single remaining daughter from the king."

На третий день рано утром оба старших брата отправились в путь, не будет ли, мол, сегодня у них возможности похитить оставшуюся одну единственную дочь хана.

When he asked: "What's new in the village?", a neighbor told: "The brothers killed each other because of the king's youngest daughter."

Он спросил, какие, мол, новости в селе, и один сосед рассказал, что из-за младшей дочери хана братья убили друг друга.

The old one told her: "Go look at the trough were you put that cow's bones!"

Старуха сказала ей: «Пойди и посмотри в яслях, где лежат кости той коровы».

"Hey hey," said his daughter, "you became sorrowful of not getting the answer to such an easy question?"

«Эх-эх, - сказала дочь, - ты задумался, не найдя ответ на такой простой вопрос?»

"So you know it?", the father asked his daughter.

«А ты знаешь ответ?» - спросил отец у дочери.

Then the king asked him: "You didn't tell this past Friday, now who told this to you?"

Тогда хан спросил его: «На прошлой пятничной молитве ты не говорил этого, а теперь кто тебе это сказал?»

They said to him: "Hey boy, why have you come here; don't you see the torture and pain that is upon us?

Они сказали ему: «Эй юноша, ты зачем сюда приехал? ты не видишь что ли, как мы тут мучаемся и страдаем?

It asked: "Shall I take you to the next side, or to this side here?"

Она спросила: «На ту или на эту сторону тебя переправить?»

He examined all the rooms and when he came to the lowest room's door, he was thinking: "Shall I go inside, or not?"

Он осмотрел все комнаты и, когда дошел до дверей нижней комнаты, стал думать, зайти или не зайти.

Now, while he began to get up from there again, the prince was asked by his sister's husband: "What shall I give you from there? Money, gold or another fortune?"

Когда он встал и выходил оттуда, муж сестры спросил ханского сына: «Что тебе дать: деньги, золото или другое богатство?»

The older brother was helping giving his hand to the younger one, so at least he might escape.

Старший брат помогал руками младшему, мол, пусть хотя бы он отделался.

There the father told them: "Wait for me here, I will go and have a look around if there is a better place to spend the night than this one here."

Там отец сказал им: «Вы здесь подождите меня, а я пойду и посмотрю, есть ли тут поблизости место для ночлега лучше, чем это».

On that very day they thought: "Shouldn't our sister give birth to the children today?"

В тот же день они замыслили: сегодня, мол, сестра должна родить.

She asked: "Is your wife giving birth to the children today?"

Она спросила: «Сегодня твоя жена рожает что ли?»

Then the children asked: "Are we your children or someone else's?"

Тогда дети спросили: «Мы ваши дети или чужие?»

"If I tell you whose you are, will you eat?", asked the miller.

«Если расскажу, чьи вы дети, будете есть?» - спросил мельник.

They asked that boy: "Do you not have a meat for medicine for the king? We are afraid to return without any piece."

Они спросили у того юноши: «Нет ли у тебя лекарственного мяса для хана, мы боимся вернуться без единого куска».

"Are you really alive?", asked him Arabuzan, when he came close.

«Ты, правда, жив?» - удивленно спросила его Арабузан, когда он подошел.

"And did you survive too, without dying?", Ismail asked her as well, "If you're alive, then I will marry you."

«Ты тоже что ли жива? - осведомился у нее Исмаил тоже, - если ты живая, то я женюсь на тебе».

When they asked: "Is there a place [for us] to stay until tomorrow?", she said: "There is some place to stay until tomorrow, but there is no mattress to spread out under you."

Когда спросили, есть ли возможность остановиться на ночлег, она ответила, что место есть, но нет матраса, чтобы постелить для них.

Ismail took a ring from his finger and gave it to the old woman: "Could you give it to the king's daughter?"

Исмаил снял со своего пальца кольцо, отдал той старухе: «Сможешь ли ты вот это передать ханской дочери?»

He came to the king and said: "Aren't you the king? Your son is going to become the king; go to look at the wives that he brought and hid in the fortress!"

Примчался он и наговаривал хану: «Ты разве хан, выходит, ханом является твой сын, иди, посмотри на жен, которых он спрятал в крепости».

The old man said: "Doesn't your way of speaking resemble Ismail's?"

Старик заметил: «Что-то твой разговор похож на разговор Исмаила».

"We will see if I can go now.", and Ismail went without a word, saddled his horse and threw his weapon over his shoulder.

«Посмотрим, смогу ли я подойти», - Исмаил молча подошел к своему коню, оседлал его и накинул оружие на плечо.

She said: "One man made his horse carry your father here, now go hiding quickly; can we escape from getting caught by him?"

Она поправила их: «Какой-то человек тащит вашего отца, скорее спрячьтесь, может, хотя бы мы успеем убежать от него».

While he was going there, he heard the words of a woman: "Isn't there a man here who pities me?"

Когда хан проезжал мимо, он услышал женский голос: «Может, тут есть человек, который мог бы пожалеть меня?»

Now the imam shouted the village to gather in one place and said: "A young man rich in wisdom and skills has come into our village, are you ready to let him become king?"

Потом имам позвал всех сельчан в одно место и сообщил: «В наше село приехал молодой человек с научными знаниями и способностями, согласны ли вы поэтому поставить его ханом?»

Some merchants whom he met asked him: "Aren't you selling this rifle?"

Он услышал, как говорил петух: «Я могу подчинить восемь-девять жен, а тот глупец не может подчинить себе одну жену и идет за овцами, чтобы резать для своих похоронах».

During these three years the woman did not ask the doctor, whether he has a wife or not.

И в течение трех лет та женщина не спрашивала у него, женат ли он.

However one day she asked him, "Do you have a wife?"

Однажды она все-таки спросила его, женат ли он.

As the son came home with the scarf, the mother asked, "Why did you bring it, what is it good for?"

Когда сын вернулся домой с косынкой, мать спросила: «Зачем ты ее взял, какая от нее польза?»
