Once upon a time, there were two friends, who always went hunting.

В один день они пошли на охоту.

At sunset they went into the village, spent some time at home, and went to the people at the godekan.

К после обеденному времени пошли в село, немного побыли дома и вышли к людям на годекан.

"A deer suddenly appeared and the bullet that was shot, hit it through the legs and pierced the ear, so it ran away on its three legs", answered the liar.

Вдруг появилась дичь, один раз выстрелил, через ногу пробило ухо, и на трех ногах убежала мол, ответил неправду рассказывающий (обманщик).

And all the people went "Whoa! How could one bullet hit it from the ear to the hoofs?"

Все люди расхохотались, как это одну пулю можно попасть через ухо в ногу.

When they went home, the one who always told the truth said to the liar:

Когда они шли домой, рассказывающий правду обманщику сказал,

Every day the brothers went hunting.

Эти братья ежедневно ходили на охоту.

When the brothers were going hunting, the youngest brother's wife made an oatmeal and when everyone sat down and ate, a ring that fell off the youngest brother's wife when she made the oatmeal, got stuck in Umukus' mouth.

Когда братья были на охоте, жена младшего брата приготовила кори (продукт из толокна) и все сидя ели. В горле Умукуса застряло кольцо, которое упало жены младшего брата.

When the brothers came back from hunting, their sister Umukus wasn't at home, so they asked their wives where she went.

По возвращении братьев с охоты, когда они дома сестру Умукус не нашли, спросили у жен, куда мол она пошла.

"Where might she have gone to?", the brothers got desperate.

Братья впали в отчаяние, куда же она должна пойти мол.

---

"Why can't you stir it?", the other brothers went to him.

Другие братья сходили, почему ты не можешь ее мешать мол.

---

Then the eldest brother went and nothing happend, so he lowered his head and threw the barrel over.

Потом еще пошел старший брат и когда он не смог что то делать, перевернули бочку.

A widow had a rooster, who went to the graveyard every day to crow.

У одной вдовы был петух ежедневно идущий на кладбище и кукарекающий.

"What happened?", the widow said and went to the grave and took the clothings from the rooster's feet.

Вдова пошла на кладбище, что же мол случилось и убрала с ног петуха одежду.

She went to him and said:

Она пошла к нему домой и сказала,

After it became clear to the brothers that the girl was at the widow's house, they went to see her.

Братья почуяли, что дома у вдовы живет девушка и они пошли посмотреть.

The brothers went home, tied all their wives onto their horses' tails and chased them out of the country.

Оттуда пошли домой, братья привязали всех жен к хвосту коней и прогнали напрочь.

One day they went into the forest to get firewood.

В один день они пошли в лес за дровами.

---

Not knowing what to do anymore, the mother asked her eldest daughter first, if she would go to the snake; she rejected: "I won't go."; then she talked to the middle daughter, who also disagreed.

Не зная больше что делать, мать спросила старшую дочь, выходишь ли ты за змею мол, когда она отказалась, не выхожу мол, сказала средней и та не согласилась.

From then on, the snake went ahead with the daughter following it, until it came to the snake's house.

Оттуда же дальше, впереди змея за ней девушка отправились в путь в змеиный дом.

When, after a while, they came to a point where the road forked, the snake sent the girl the one way and itself went the other one.

Через некоторое время, когда они пришли в то место, где раздваивается дорога, с одной стороны дороги отправила девушку, а с другой стороны пошла змея.

When she came to a house somewhere on the long way she was going on, she went inside.

Долго пошла она по этой дороге, дошла до одного дома и зашла вовнутрь.

Afterwards, the girl wanted to go to her mother and her sisters.

Со временем девушке захотелось пойти к матери и сестрам.

---

When she asked her husband for permission to go to her family, he let her go with the words: "You may stay three months, then, after [you killed the boredom(?)] come back!"

Она попросила разрешение у своего мужа, чтобы пойти и навестить семью, а он позволил оставаться в течение трех месяцев, с тем чтобы хорошенько навещать и вернуться обратно.

The next morning she got up, put her son into a hay bale and went to her mother.

Завтра же взяла с собой сына и пошла к матери.

When the eldest daughter asked her mother: "Let me go with her together so I can see her off!", and the mother angrily said: "Why didn't you go when I let you?"

Старшая дочь настырно просила матери, дай мне пойти вместе с ней, чтобы ее провожать, а рассердившая мать сказала, почему не пошла тогда же, когда я тебя отправляла мол.

The two sisters exchanged their shirts while on their way.

Обе сестры по пути же поменяли платье.

When the boy's mother, saying "I will pick this flower", went to the bank of the sea and bowed down, the eldest sister pushed her into the sea, took the boy and went to the younger sister's home.

Мать сына пошла к берегу моря, нагнулась, чтобы сорвать тот цветок и старшая сестра затолкнула ее в море, забрала с собой мальчика и пошла в дом младшей сестры.

The next day in the early morning, the father went together with the boy to pasture the cows.

На следующий день вместе с сыном пасти коров пошел и отец.

"If you are a human, come into my hand, or else this joke won't bluff us and we'll go back"

если ты человек иди ко мне, а то не издевайся над нами и иди обратно.

And and old woman carried it to her home.

А ее подобрала к себе домой старуха.

---

The hen that she had brought home quickly turned into a girl and while she did the house[work] then, the old woman ran and caught this girl.

Приведенная ею курица моментально превратилась в девушку, начала делать работы по дому, а старая женщина быстро побежала и схватила ту девушку.

Having heard of this story, the father and his son went to have a look and he immediately knew when seeing her, that it was his wife.

Услышав это известие, отец и сын пошли посмотреть и он увидев сразу узнал, что это его жена.

The three of them were very delighted, so when they went home, they found the older sister, sitting at home waiting.

Очень обрадовались и оттуда дальше втроем пошли домой и там как (у себя) дома сидит старшая сестра.

Not knowing what to do anymore, the fox went after prey somewhere else.

Больше не зная что делать лиса пошла за добычей в другую сторону.

They were collecting bilberries in the forest and didn't notice how the time went by and it got dark.

В лесу они собирали чернику, прошло незаметно время и стемнело.

After it got dark, the three sisters didn't know where to go and remained in the forest.

После наступления темноты, не зная куда пойти, трое сестер остались в лесу.

They thought they would find their own house there, so they stumbled towards that fire.

Подумали, что это их дом падая, вставая девочки пошли к огню.

---

They went to the house and opened the door, and when they looked inside, they found a young girl there.

Пошли к дому, открыли дверь и посмотрели вовнутрь и там они маленькую девочку нашли.

---

The sisters told, that they lost their way and didn't know where to go anymore, so they came here to the fire.

Сестры рассказали, что они заблудились и не зная куда пойти, увидев огонь пришли сюда.

While they were running away from it, the eldest sister threw down the mirror that their father had given her.

Когда они бежали от него, старшая сестра бросила на землю зеркало, которое дал ей отец.

The sisters, not even waiting a single breath, were running away from the dragon to get far away from it.

Сестры стремительно бежали от дракона не дожидаясь ни на минуту, стараясь как можно больше отдаляться от него.

After that, the girl couldn't even with force go into the forest anymore.

С тех пор девочек не возможно было даже заставить пойти в лес.

After a while, when the father intented to find a[nother] wife, the daughter gave him the ring and said: "Mother's last wish was that you may only marry a woman who matches this ring."

Прошло некоторое время, когда отец начал поискать себе жену, дочь отдал ему кольцо и сказала, мама завещала, чтобы ты женился только на той, которой подойдет это кольцо.
